Amazing DIY For Your Swing Bed:
Hanging
bed ideas are gaining immense popularity worldwide, for fun, fashion, comfort,
and style. Great swinging beds offer so much more than any other furniture! They
work as a therapy for people in many ways; people love Floating Beds because they also provide health benefits.
So
the idea of an outdoor hanging bed is amazing! - and
the easy way is to buy one online. But if you want to go with DIY ideas to make
your outdoor round bed, and enjoy the beautiful outdoors,
weather and nature, here are the DIY steps and tips.
"Note: Your DIY bed can be a great project for you
that can provide you with fun, relaxation, and comfort."
The
DIY Floating Bed is an interesting idea, as it should be
cheaper than a factory-made one. Yet hanging beds come with several caveats. If
you attempt DIY, you will benefit from some expert guidance. Be realistic about
what a DIY bed, and the process, will be like.
First, a
hanging bed is potentially the best bed there is, even indoors for year-round
use, but for that, they need proper support in the ceiling. Hanging beds may or
may not weigh much, but people do; therefore, the support you are going to hang
it from needs to be strong, so that it can hold the extra weight with people on
it. For this, it is important to get help from someone; ideally, an
architect, or an experienced person, to learn the requirements for both
vertical and horizontal support, since the bed will be in motion. The stand, or
support structure, for an outdoor hanging bed has to be strong as well.
The next thing to consider is the amount of swing, to determine how much room it
will take. You can figure this out with proper measurements, and math, based on
your height, and partner or family size. You need to decide yourself exactly
“how much space is enough,” inside the bed, and around it for swinging, especially if you have never been on one.
(Also, you will probably want to create some ”bump protection” around
the perimeter.)
To
build an Indoor or Outdoor
Hanging Bed, your next step is to work out the design, planning,
and building of the bed, so you do not miss any details. Consider this as a job. Decide if you have time, tools, and expertise
to carry it out. Can you scout around for the right materials at the right
price and buy them, then build it, without mistakes? Will that be an enjoyable
job for you? Or is it better to get paid
at a job you know, and buy a nice, well-designed, and pre-made one?
You may find inexpensive rope, for example, but check the weight it can carry. Learning
about the right rope is a longer task.
It should not stretch over time, or get stiff or brittle due to sunlight (do
not get nylon rope for example, because of that). These are other problems with other kinds of rope for this type of use.
Once you have found the right rope, decide how much, and how to tie the
preferred knots, that will not slip, but still can be adjusted, and what is the
ideal way to attach them, at the top support and frame at the bottom.
Next,
you have to find, or make, the frame. Some people have tried to re-purpose a
trampoline to make a hanging bed. While this sounds like a great idea at first,
there are drawbacks. First, it has to be the right size, not too small, or too
large. Next, when you remove the legs from a trampoline, it becomes weak. Those
legs on the ground were the only thing keeping the frame flat, and strong. People
are finding that hanging trampoline frames bend, or even break-in time. If you
have 3 – 4 friends in it, possibly 1000 lbs all together, and suddenly everything
gives way, that is a bad scenario. Finding (or building) a stronger frame is a
much better plan. We want you, and your friends and family, to be safe.
Next, you need a surface to relax on, which of course is the entire point.
However, trampoline mats are not good for this purpose. If you have ever laid
down on one, you know that they sag, and you roll to the middle, sinking into a little
“valley.” If you are on it with someone else, this problem gets worse. That is
not a bed for two. Trampoline net D rings often come undone at the perimeter, another
problem.
If
you are going to all the trouble to make a hanging bed, you are better off finding
a stronger round hoop frame, plus a better mat or net than a trampoline - unless
you just want it for a kids toy, or for a curiosity piece. Sagging is not comfortable,
and breaking is dangerous.
If
you actually want to sleep on it, instead of just using it occasionally for
half-hour or so, you will need to come up with a mattress of some kind. There
are several options there, depending on how much you want to spend, and how you
want it to look. Do you want it to be
waterproof, or just take it off for storage when no one is using it? You can get
away with something cheap, but a high-quality mattress can cost $1000 - $2500,
if you want it to actually be comfortable, and to be a proper bed. Finding or
making around one is another step.
Last,
if you want it to actually look nice, you will want to come up with some
practical, custom sewn fabric items to fit, and for comfort – possibly sofa
pillows, shades, and more.
You
definitely do not want a large, unused, unsightly deteriorating piece of junk
in your yard in a few years that you have to dispose of somehow. The WAF (Wife
Acceptance Factor) should be high, or you could have that problem. DIY means
DIR - do it right, or not at all.
Of
course, inexpensive pre-made hanging beds will have some of these same problems,
and those are not built to last either. Most are 6’ or less, much shorter than a
twin bed, which is too small for adults – and they still sag. Do you want to
enjoy it yourself, or with your family?
Compare
that to a high quality floating Bed, which come in several sizes, some even over
8’ tall. Their support does not sag at
all, even with several people in it. They are really comfortable, and ideally even include a
quality Memory Foam mattress. If you are
buying one, it is smart to do some homework, and call the manufacturer to learn
about the quality first, before you waste your money and are disappointed. There
is a huge difference in the looks, build quality, and comfort, between the
three options: a proper Floating Bed, a DIY bed, or a cheap copy.
To
sum up, a DIY Outdoor Hanging Bed looks simple and
easy, but it is work finding the adequate materials, which you will have to find,
and buy at retail. What you get with a higher quality factory-made Floating Bed, IF it is designed and built by an experienced
team(metalworkers, welders, weavers, seamstresses and more), with the right machinery
and materials, is a truly amazing bed, that you could never make on your own,
even if you spent much more money to make it.
Therefore
it is recommended that you make your decision on the DIY idea by first considering
what you want from it, and consider all the factors, such as safety, weight,
material quality, longevity, looks, expertise, and more.
Gentle
rocking feels truly amazing; there is nothing like it. Your bed should ideally
be designed, built, and installed properly, so it is safe, and can provide you the
comfort and relaxation you expect. If
you are quite handy and have the time, you can definitely make a hanging bed,
and you could be well satisfied with it too! Just realize that it will not be
like a high quality hanging bed from a reputable online website, with years of experience
building them, and phone support to help people set them up.
